CREATIVE NATURE
The reservoir, a doorway to a journey to the origins of Nature
20 November 2022 > 12 February 2023
Mons, Belgium.
Curated by: Jean Blanchaert
Exhibition design: Evelyne Gilmont
From 20 November 2022 to 12 February 2023, the Anciens Abattoirs de Mons will be hosting a collective exhibition with the support of the prestigious Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, sparked by its Homo Faber Crafting a more human future event which took place for the second time from 10 April to 1st May 2022 in Venice.

Entitled Creative Nature, the exhibition will juxtapose the finest of contemporary European craftsmanship with the excellence of Belgian artists and artisans. Together they present an inspiring new look at the concept of the receptacle which invites us to explore its origins, so closely linked to Nature and to Human Nature.

Reservoirs (of knowledge), the vase, bowl or amphora have a primitive function which is closely linked to Nature and to Human Nature. They are the receptacles that contain all manner of materials, foodstuffs, History and Humanity. Creative Nature is an encounter between Nature as a creator and the creativity of the artist’s hand. Whether suggested or materialised, these concepts are illustrated by a hundred-odd objects re-visited by contemporary crafts, using ceramics, glass, metalwork, wood or textiles, and sometimes new materials such as silicon, or organic matter. As many creations fashioned by the human hand and which strongly invite us to question the world that surrounds us.
