As part of the Backwater Artists Group Studio 12 programme for 2021: The Human Animal, we are delighted to invite you to Fetter, an exhibition of work by Cork based artist Helen Farrell.
States of creaturely existence that reference actual living things are the starting point for this body of work where suggestions of something imaginary are in fact rooted in a process of drawing from observation.
Mutations emerge through repeated revisions and the linear qualities of drawing are employed to help to sustain a fluidity of meaning which lingers between emergence and disintegration, containment, and release to unsettle and question what is real.
A unifying factor in this work is a recognition of the human need for myths and legends, gods and monsters, and our eternal desire to be entertained by narratives that combine the mundane with the gory.
