Backwater Artists Group are delighted to invite you to the opening reception of Dear Little Box, an exhibition of prints by Nicola Sheehan. The work commemorates Irish activist Kathleen Napoli McKenna and is supported by the Kathleen McKenna Award 2021.
Opening reception March 2nd at 6pm, Studio 12, Backwater Artists Group, Wandesford Quay, Cork. All Welcome.
Dear Little Box references Napoli McKenna’s time working with the Irish Bulletin, and her devotion, both to the Bulletin – which she fondly refers to as her “god-child”- and to her country. During the Irish Bulletin’s two year lifespan, McKenna worked to physically type and duplicate each issue from various hideouts across Dublin, using printing apparatus which included Gestetner duplicators.
Supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012 – 2023 initiative and the Arts Council’s Project Award 2023.
