Isobel Mc Carthy
Artist Bio
Isobel Mc Carthy is a printmaker based in Cork. She graduated with a first-class honours BA in Fine Art from Crawford College of Art and Design in 2024. Isobel was awarded the Crawford print residency along with the Limerick Printmakers CCAD residency for the academic year of 2024-2025. In 2019, Isobel received her NFC level 5 in Art Portfolio from Coláiste Stiofán Naofa.
Artist Statement
Navigating the terrain of personal history, my practice delves into childhood memories and the meaning behind everyday objects at home. I identify items that evoke a sense of nostalgia and possess profound significance for myself. The inclusion of animals in my work is a deliberate choice rooted in a sustained childhood interest. The animals in my work serve as symbolic representations of people who hold a profound meaning in my life. By using animals and the domestic within my work, I can combine personal experiences with visual storytelling.
I use a wide range of printmaking techniques within my work. Using these techniques I deconstruct domestic spaces by recreating them using paper, photographic solutions and tea toners.
