Artist Statement

Visualisation of images based on Music, Text or Poetry continues to inform my practise. Colour, Abstracted Shapes, and Clear Lines form the basis of my work. I like to create a series, watching the concept change and grow with each variation informing the next.

I express my emotional connection to the subject through the use of simple powerful forms in vibrant colour.

Sunshine and light are essential to my inner life and are joyously celebrated.  I paint because I have to.  I feel really good about myself when I am involved in a project.  I can’t stop because I feel I have something important to say, it’s a challenge, to create something new, to keep developing and experimenting, to become bolder and take more risks.

I am greatly moved by the plight of civilians during famine and war. For the past 2 years I have created a series called A story of Survival. 20 paintings imagining the horror of leaving everything and everyone you know and love. Fleeing to a hostile land trying to find sanctuary, not knowing what has happened at home or what will happen ahead. The last painting, But There is nowhere to perch, gives no hope for return.
