This spring Cork Printmakers, Lavit Gallery and Backwater Artists Group open our courtyard to the public at Wandesford Quay, Cork City to host events across multiple artforms. These inclusive, open-air arts events include live performances, creative workshops, and inspiring talks curated by Ciara Rodgers. In the Open | Faoin Spéir is a 2021/2022 initiative of the Arts Council of Ireland.
Some highlights include World Circus Day on the 16th of April 2022 which sees Circus Factory take over the courtyard for their kids Super Star Circus and evening Cabaret. The 30th of April will welcome Bloomers X Rachel Botha, a publication launch event with talks and workshops from Eve Olney (The Radical Institute) and Creativity & Change, MTU Crawford College of Art and Design. After dusk projection mapping with Inter_Site artist collective in collaboration with Sample Studios will illuminate the courtyard on Thursday 28th April.

Cork Printmakers, Backwater Artist Group, and The Lavit Gallery in partnership with Cork City Council Arts Office are recipients of the In the Open | Faoin Spéir Arts Council Award, an initiative of the Arts Council of Ireland to generate a sustained and curated programme of multidisciplinary, inclusive arts activity in public or open spaces in towns and communities around Ireland.
The Wandesford Quay complex is home to Cork Printmakers, Backwater Artists Group and Lavit Gallery. It features studios, art-making facilities, galleries, and offices. A former warehouse located by Clarke’s Bridge in Cork City, It was built around 1840 and restored in 1995. Its first use was as a grain store, probably for the nearby distillery. Subsequently it became a timber yard and Coleman’s Printers.
