Backwater Artists Group were open for Culture Night 2016. There was a great turn out once more with over 400 people coming to see the studios, meet the artists and partake in guided tours, art workshops, artists talks and demos. The children’s workshops were booked out well in advance and a real success on the night.
The Kids Drawing Workshop for 5-8 year olds was hosted by Elaine Coakley and featured artist Jo Kelley. Children had a chance to visit Jo’s studio and create large scale drawing in response to her work. They were allowed bring an object/toy that was special to them. Ciaran Langford Memorial Bursary artists Leah Corbett and Rachel Mankze helped out with the workshop.
Peter Martin held a workshop for 7-12 year olds to create a giant stained glass mural from coloured paper. Artists talks were given by Sean Hanrahan, Cassandra Eustace, David Barrett and John Kent. Visiting residency exchange artist Eimear Kavanagh gave an artist demo. In addition to our usual studio tours archaeologist Caen Harris gave a built heritage hour of the site focusing on the former industrial nature of the Wandesford Quay and Crosses Green area.
A big thank you to everyone involved.
