Pascal Ungerer is a visual artist from Cork, Ireland. In 2018 Pascal completed a scholarship funded Masters in Fine Art from the prestigious MFA programme at Goldsmiths University London. He works primarily with paint but also creative writing and has a background in lens based media.
He has screened and exhibited his work throughout Europe, including Blackburn Museum and Gallery, CICA Museum South Korea, Roman Road Gallery London, and LOOP Festival Barcelona and the Visual Centre for Contemporary Art. He has forthcoming shows at GOMA Waterford, The Uillinn West Cork Art Centre, Custom House Studios and Gallery in Mayo, and also Gallerie Burgerstockersenger in Zurich.
His art practice is primarily concerned with spatial cultures in relation to peripherality, social history and geo-politics with an emphasis on place and the built and natural world. He has a particular interest in obsolete structures on the margins of urban development and in rural hinterlands, as well as areas of post-industrialisation, ecological degradation and rural de- population. Throughout his work he examines in-between spaces that lie at the intersection of the urban and rural, this liminal and interstitial terrain has become a focal point for much of his recent painting.
