Statement

My name is Janet Murran and I am a Visual artist living and working near Skibbereen, West Cork. I paint moments of awe as I encounter them in my surroundings. I’m not looking for a photographic rendition but instead am seeking to find the essence, personality, an understanding and a deeper knowledge of my environs.

I start a body of work by visiting a place that peaks my curiosity repeatedly, getting to know it in different weather, at different times of the day and in different seasons, then I begin to making small studies en plein-air on board or prepared paper and/or taking photographs and written notes, during this process I often find that deeper layers of information become visible, a place is revealed in a unique light. I then return to the studio where I make all my finished paintings, primarily working with acrylic on solid wood panels or charcoal on prepared paper.

I show my work with Taylor Galleries, Dublin and The Blue House Gallery, Schull. My work is in private collections in Ireland, Europe, UK, USA and Australia.
