Édaein Samuels

Bio

Édaein Samuels is a multi-disciplinary artist, dividing her time between painting, drawing, life modelling and circus arts. She is an alumni of Crawford College of Art and Design where she graduated in 2018 with a BA(Hons) in Contemporary Applied Art. She was awarded the Eli Lilly purchase prize and a place in the Lavitt Gallery ‘Fledglings’ emerging artists exhibition on merit of her degree show. Edaein has shown work at the Dublin Knitting and Textile Show 2018, the GOMA Gallery in Waterford (2017) and earlier this year, showed her painting ‘Remote’ in Lavitt’s Member’s exhibition 2022.

Édaein loves to engage with her physicality and is a long-standing member at Circus Factory and has been modelling for various artists and classes since 2016, these experiences all nourish her own drawing practices. She recently produced two psychological video compositions performing on aerial hoop, called ‘Stuck’ (2020) and ‘Confined’ (2021/22), both partly inspired by experiences during lock down. Édaein is currently making mixed media drawings of potted plants in her studio on Georges Quay and is exploring time lapse videography to record the movement of plants in response to light.
