Don Samec
Bio
I am a multidisciplinary artist and creative producer with more than a decade of experience in video production, photography, and mixed media art, dedicated to expanding access and awareness to collage, highlighting its profound capacity for transformation, sustainability, inclusivity, and therapeutic expression. My practice explores inner landscapes and is rooted in the philosophy that art is not about creating from scratch, but about finding new meaning and wholeness in the world’s discarded fragments.
Artist Statement
My work is a process of breaking and rebuilding-a collision of chaos and order. Rooted in analog collage, I take fragmented images, discarded materials, and my own photographs to construct new narratives. Each tear, cut, and reconstruction is an act of transformation, mirroring the cycles of destruction and rebirth that shape both personal and collective identity.
Influenced by the philosophy of kintsugi, I embrace imperfections as part of the story. By disrupting existing visuals and reassembling them, I challenge perception, pushing past the constraints of linear storytelling. Cork’s urban textures, layered graffiti, and overlooked details have deeply influenced this approach, becoming an endless source of inspiration.
My work exists in the tension between chaos and consciousness-a constant dialogue where disorder finds its own balance.
