David McLoughlin

Artist Bio

In portraiture, the point of focus is often clear and immediately recognisable. By employing unconventional cropping—whether through the edges of the canvas or the use of geometric forms—the work resists this instant legibility, encouraging the viewer to linger in interpretation. This deliberate disruption invites deeper engagement, prompting questions about identity, gender, composition, and the emotional state of the subject, and perhaps most importantly, the mood the piece evokes. Interpretations vary widely, underscoring the fluidity of perception and the active role of the observer in shaping meaning.
