Statement
Healy’s work is an ongoing exploration of her experiences of place, space and time. In Healy’s drawings a myriad of ideas is compressed into a single mark, which is repeated with a meditative resonance to nature and spirituality. She is process led and works intuitively, starting off a drawing with some simple guidelines but letting it have a natural outcome. Healy uses pure colour pigment in her drawings, mostly water colour and coloured pencils on paper. The simplicity of these materials and drawing methodology align with the nature and essence of the handmade, which is an important part of Healy’s art practice, while also a deliberate response to the busy noisy world we live in. Her current body of works on paper, uses oil based coloured pencils that have high quality pigment, as she experiments with the use of colour and how it affects us. By using repetition Healy is looking at our daily routines and habits and how they become the making of us, she is especially interested in the drive of the human spirit to keep going, from the mundane in our lives to the great physical accomplishments of human beings who push themselves to the limit.
