Studio 12, Backwater Artists Group, Wandesford Quay, Cork
Many artists are attracted to the idea of putting themselves in a different environment in order to generate new work and ideas. The opportunity to do this often comes in the form of artist residencies or studio exchanges. There are many different models and approaches to both. This exhibition looks at five examples of such projects undertaken by members of Backwater Artists Group and gives some insight into what these interactions meant to each artist. The exhibition, curated by Éilis Ní Fhaoláin features artwork, testimonies and documentation by six artists:
Conall Carey, Highland Print Studio, Inverness, Scotland.
Fiona Kelly, Ratamo Centre, Jyväskylä, Finland.
Éilis Ní Fhaoláin and Eimear Kavanagh, Road Studios, Liverpool / BAG, Cork.
Ben Reilly, GLOGAUAIR studios, Berlin.
Darn Thorn, Struts Gallery, New Brunswick, Canada.
Experiences will be further shared in an Artists Discussion during the run of the exhibition. (Date tbc).
