Donna Mc Namara.“Artist Who Delights The Soul”If the art of Gothic Architecture is to transform “ aspiration “and to freeze it permanently, in stone then the gift that the Art of Donna Mc Namara brings us is, to plunge directly into us, her journeys to the soul of humanity. Matisse said of his beginnings: ”Painting gave me access to to another world“. It is in this way that Donna’s work gathers up “otherness” magic, if you will. Out there is her playground and from her journeys out there she brings back work that rationalises something for us that is beyond comprehension ,joyful intense works that renew our vision of ourselves and of our place in the world. Her work travels only into what can not be said in words about Love /Joy. Bliss / Sorrow. The ecstatic and the mundane pain and the small sudden moments of the joy of everyday. Works that Plunge into us as we soak right into them. She scratches ,she tears, she layers, she builds she bites she bitches she roars she smiles she strokes she fondles and in dialogue with her materials she enters a state of making. This dialogue back and forth creates “Objects”.”Prints” “Paintings.” Whatever you wish to call them but objects that transcend their own making. It is a form of “Magic” that when we stand in front of them, these papers, these smears of ink these tears ,scratches etc that they fade away and we plunge straight into pure feeling and the state of being that Donna has brought us to .
Donna Mc Namara is an artist who draws or plucks significance from the journeys of her days.
As an artist she draws significance of the soul from the tension of thinking and of making and brings back works that delight our souls.
